IEEE for Students What is IEEE from the student’s point of view? IEEE student membership provides a set of benefits specifically targeted at students in order to increase their positive experience on their way to becoming an expert in their field. These benefits include, but are not limited to: 1. Start building your professional network and enhance your future career Participate in Student Branch activities at your university and attend technical and professional meetings in the UK&RI section where likeminded members at various stages of their career paths meet to discuss technical and professional issues and career concerns. 2. Attend top technical events at low member rates Accept invitations to attend and participate in numerous technical conferences in a variety of technical interest areas as well as educational seminars, technical and professional programmes and courses. 3. Get your own personal subscription to IEEE Spectrum and Potentials IEEE Spectrum delivers, on a monthly basis, the latest technological information with behind-the-scenes stories to put the news in context. IEEE Potentials discusses career issues and other subjects of interest to those starting out in the electrical and computer engineering professions. 4. Save with low member prices on IEEE products Your membership gives you access to the world’s most comprehensive source of electrical and electronics publications, specialised books, conference records, published standards and e-learning materials. IEEE provides the best technical information in the world and your membership entitles you to low member prices on all of it. 5. Establish yourself early in the profession’s premier technical organisation IEEE members are the technical and scientific professionals making the revolutionary engineering advances which are reshaping our world today. To enable young professionals who join IEEE as students to maintain their membership through the early years of their career, IEEE provides a graduated dues program. When you graduate with your first professional degree, with no interruption to your IEEE membership, you may be eligible for up to four years of reduced IEEE dues and assessments. Additional information about IEEE student membership is available in the <Students Section> on the main IEEE website and on the website of the <Region 8 Student Activities Committee>. Link 1:

Student Branches A Student Branch is a student society at a university that gives students the opportunity to meet and learn from fellow students, as well as faculty members and professionals in the field. A good IEEE Student Branch can be one of the most positive elements in an Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology department. IEEE Student Branches are established at over 900 universities and colleges throughout the world. Student Branch activities offer numerous educational, technical, and professional advantages of IEEE membership through special projects, activities, meetings, tours and field trips. Seminars with guest speakers, who are professionals working in the field, enable students to enhance their knowledge outside the classroom. Student Professional Awareness Conferences (S-PACs) help increase awareness of professional issues such as ethics, continuing education, and communication skills.
If you would be interested in founding a new student branch at your university, please contact the UK&RI Section Student Activities Chair.
